Has there ever been any rear engine front wheel drive vehicles? Aren’t agricultural combines like that? Also how bad would the handling be? Probably horrendous.

Most combines are four wheel drive today, and technically mid engined . Depending on the model the drive method varies, the hand on experience I’ve had is with a Claas, which used big arse belts and variators to a gearbox on the front axle.
You have to watch the swing on the back.

Consider forklifts. Front drive
They are rear steer, at speeds over 10 I’m sure it gets sketchy for anything t ight.
